I would like to use to try to this if the icons were available from Kodi, not the backend. I don't think tieing them to a skin is a good idea.    I am also trying to understand how I could make this work outside of the relatively closed and well defined DVB subsystem.  It is not clear where the country identifier will come from based on the values I showed earlier.

The other point is how valuable can this be if 2/3 are unrated and most rating are the original rating which may not factor in edited for TV.

From what I have seen, NextPVR can source EPG data from DVB OTA, XMLTV and ATSC OTA.

DVB provides ISO Country + Age.
XMLTV provides Rating Code + (Optional) ‘System’.
I have not yet taken the time to understand ATSC completely yet. But it has ‘codes’ and ‘regions’ and ‘dimensions’.

Converting the DVB ISO Country code to a name as well as working out which rating code to use is easy enough provided you know the country's classification rules.

With XMLTV, you would have to do a lookup between ‘system’ and country.

Because the backend is receiving the Country+Age or Code+System, the backend either needs to pass both of these to the Kodi PVR addon and let it work things out or work it out and tell Kodi what to display. In TVH, I let the backend do the work and tell Kodi what to display.

For me, the main value is in assisting parents with young kids determine if a programme is suitable. It is also beneficial to people with certain cultural sensitivities.

Yes,  there are many sources plus Schedules Direct which is the richest.  To give you an idea of what I see are the issues check this movie tonight (Creed) here are the  MPAA ratings that are provided in the SD guide data https://pastebin.com/BazEucTS  the guide has 20+ different systems.  Likewise here is TV show (Friends) https://pastebin.com/jXUzukxZ and these aren't MPAA which uses a different rating system with different icons.  Not sure how the rest of the world works.   mikeSiLVO's work is just the start.  Both Canadian and Quebec standards as well as US TV ratings are missing.  Not sure if other countries only use MPAA for TV.  Once all that is worked out then is will be easier to consider lookup table.

My question of value was on the value of classification as text vs the icon and making sure the icon is visible on the 10' interface.  Looking at the wiki page you linked to I think colour system like the DVB EPG genre with text would probably be more appropriate in many cases.

As far as I know, MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) is USA only.

In Australia we have our own system.  There are some superficial similarities to MPAA, but a different system nonetheless.

Yes, IMDB is similar:  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3076658/par...tt_stry_pg

The USA seems to have separate, similar but different, movie ratings and TV ratings systems.

MPAA is USA but it's used by a lot of other countries. I've found this resource quite useful while creating different country classification flags for my own skin: https://support.google.com/moviestvpartn...4874?hl=en

Thanks for the link @realcopacetic.

In the USA, 'MPAA' seems to be for movies and 'TVPG' is for TV.  Good to know.

Yes thanks link is helpful and also show my concern about gather icons, I wish they linked icons too.

Canada where I am from has different TV and movie standards from the Americans plus there is another set for Quebec (a majority French province).  As a result my EPG could have American, Canadian (not Quebec) and Quebec's rating plus ratings from other countries so maybe you see better my concern on the difficulties for users gathering all those icons.  There have been many channel icon packs over the year but I haven't seen them for these parental rating icons.
