Hello all,
I have Kodi running on my Sony Google TV and am a bit confused about Timeshifting.
In the TV section with IPTV channels I am trying to use Timeshifting functions but they are not working.
There is a control on the far left that looks like it should rewind back to the start of a program but it is doing nothing.
There are no controls for rewind and forward but if I press the left and right buttons on my remote it "seems" to do something but it doesn't seem to work as expected.
I have enabled Timeshifting in the Inputstream FFmpeg Direct and the IPTV Simple Client addons.
I don't know if I don't understand the Timeshifting function.
If I press the far left back button should it take me to the start of the program that is playing even if I started watching it partially into the stream?
Should the forward and rewind buttons appear in the controls on the bottom of the screen?
Should I be able to at least rewind a program even if I started watching partially into the stream?
The feature of being able to jump back to the start of a program is of most interest as I browse the guide and find something I want to watch but in most cases it has already started.

It seems like what you are looking for is catch-up, which only works if it's provided from the source and enabled through catch-up configuration.
Timeshift 'only' lets you move within a time window from the moment you start watching. Basically it just saves the segments since the channel started.
Hope to have cleared up the difference sufficiently.

Hello Atreyu,
Thanks very much for replying.
I understand now. So basically once I start watching a program, timeshifting kicks in so that I could pause and once the stream progresses I can rewind the stream.
I tried to search about what Kodi Timeshifting does and found it difficult to get an explanation (I would have thought I could find out the information without needing to post on a forum!)
I will look into the catch-up function.
Thanks again for replying, you have answered my questions.

Hello Atreyu,
Thanks for your reply.
I will definitely look at the pinned post as you recommended, it is definitely of interest.
As I said 99% of the time I see a program on the EPG that has already started so most of the time I never end up watching the IPTV channels even though they may have desirable programming on.

Hello Atreyu,
Well I had a looked at the pinned post (went through all the posts on that thread) but I am more confused than ever.
My IPTV Simple Client has an "Edit "IPTV Merge" [Enabled]" setting which I am guessing has been automatically added by the IPTV Merge add-on as I didn't add it myself.
If I go inside the "Edit "IPTV Merge" [Enabled]" configuration I can turn on the Catchup section.
My configuration is as follows:
Catchup:
Enable catchup = On
- Query format screen = (blank)
- Catchup windows = 5 days
Channels support catchup using mode = Default
- Include channels = with and without catchup mode (all channels)
Catchup correction = 0.0 hours
Watch From EPG:
Play from EPG in Live mode (using timeshift) = On
- Buffer before program start = 5 min (setting greyed out)
- Buffer after program end = 15 min (setting greyed out)
Catchup only available on finished programmes = Off
When I pick random channels from the EPG, I do not get Play Programme buttons (like I believe I should get) and once in the telecast I cannot rewind, forward or restart the programme at the beginning of the telecast. I tried about a dozen random channels.
I do not have an IPTV provider per se, I only have addons installed that have Live TV channels and they are all pulled into the guide with IPTV Merge as far as I know.
Any ideas on how to get Catchup working or do you advise I post my problem on the pinned post??

Another thing,
If I go into the Kodi Settings/PVR & Live TV my setting for Guide/Past days to display is set to 1 day however my EPG doesn't go previous to the current program.
Confused.....

This will depend entirely on the video addons you have installed and whether they support catchup or not.
I’d suggest asking those addon authors if catchup is support and if so what type of catchup.

Hello phunkyfish,
Thanks for your reply.
The main 2 addons with TV channels I have installed are Pluto TV and Samsung TV Plus, they have the most channels in the EPG.
I can try and source the authors about those.
Is there an addon that works with Catchup that I can install and test it with to make sure that Catchup is definitely working?

I have some experience with Samsung TV+ and i don't believe catch up is available for that one. I would say the same goes for Pluto TV. As phunkyfish suggested it might be worth checking out the Pluto tv cliënt addon. No experience with that either; my channels come from my local provider that uses a supported format for catch-up.

Hello phunkyfish & Atreyu,
Thanks for both replying.
Maybe none of my addons support Catch-up.
@Atreyu: Thanks for confirming that both Samsung TV+ and Pluto TV do not support Catch-up.
@phunkyfish: Will take a look at the Pluto TV PVR addon.
Would be good to get a Catch-up supported addon to prove that Catch-up is working on my Google TV Kodi installation.
I will do some more testing but focus on my other addons, hopefully one of them work, otherwise I might post in the pinned post on Catch-up asking the question about any addons I can install to test Catch-up, there has to be one that I can use to test.
@Atreyu: When you say "my channels come from my local provider that uses a supported format for catch-up" do you mean an IPTV provider or local terrestrial stations?

It's just a digital service of cable channels in my subscription.
Good luck in your endeavours ..!
