Release [obsolete - now in nightlies] Build - Dolby Vision compatibility/quality improvements
Thanks again for responding. I do understand "Kodi doesn't have a mechanism to prioritize HDR formats." That's why my original post thanked you for your consideration of it as a request. Is there any reason such a mechanism couldn't be added? It would also help people who want Kodi to prioritize HDR 10+ over DoVi. As for why some occasional hybrid videos containing DoVi instead default to HDR 10/10+ on Kodi, I won't be able to post a log until I next encounter it again. I have logging disabled trying to avoid the TV's eMMC getting worn out prematurely since I tend to keep a TV for a very long time before replacing it. Anyway, thanks again for your time and consideration.

It's not simple to know if the file contains HDR10+ before playback starts.
And the code is not designed to do it.

For Sony: https://jenkins.kodi.tv/job/android-arm-...bi-v7a.apk ... this build is more than the user support of this great company offering their TVs for more than 1000 dollars ... awesome. I think the most easy solution is building a sony build for those 5 to 6 users left using these TVs from 5+ years ago.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Thank you. I'll give this build a go. I believe there are more Sony TV users out their than one might expect. I am one of 4 I know of. We bought them because at the time they offered all the best features and a clean running Android TV without needing any extra hardware. Other than this issue that none could foresee, the TVs still look and work great. I'd rather not be buying a new TV every few years and generate more e-waste because the manufacturer no longer supports it.

Is there any way to make this an advanced setting to enable or disable how the HDR is handled, or is this a way more complicated issue than I can comprehend?

Not worth my freetime to be honest. I made the base work, but then had no time to debug it further, call is succesful, but does not work for your device ... feel free to pick it up. You could try the other way round - keep it transparent and then simply set it to black to unblock the "other some million" devices out there that get broken by this Sony behaviour ...

Understood. I guess it's just one of those things where items become defunct and progress moves forward.

I've been meaning to try fixing fritsch's work, it should definitely be possible through an advanced setting.

Es ist nicht einfach, vor Beginn der Wiedergabe festzustellen, ob die Datei HDR10+ enthält.
Und der Code ist nicht dafür ausgelegt.

When this: https://jenkins.kodi.tv/job/android-arm-docker/6768/ is finished it will land here: http://mirrors.kodi.tv/test-builds/android/arm/
Please leave this thread alone. It won't fix Sony's firmware. Consider not buying their TVs next time ...

I just did a quick test and it works great. My son can now watch his HDR content without having to turn off the HDR on the TV and then have to turn it back on when he plays PS5.

Very much appreciated that you took the time to create the build and post it!

Here's the advanced setting version of the workaround: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/issues/2516...2144021198
I need Sony TV users to test if it works.
