I have many various artists albums and on occasion I want to look at the artist listed against a particular track. Choosing Information on that track brings up the standard Information page. Then, selecting Artist Information takes me to the generic Various Artists page. That does not help me.

I presume this behaviour is because the Artist Information is being drawn from the Album Artist field in the file's tag.

Is there any 'clean' method (xml?) to direct that call to the Artist field rather than Album Artist?

No, sorry.
If I remember right skins can use song artist art, but default behaviour of Estuary in album artist
