Kodi v21 Omega is in Multimedia's backports.
Repo deb-multimedia.org:
5:21.0-dmo2 99
99 https://www.deb-multimedia.org trixie/main amd64 Packages
99 https://www.deb-multimedia.org sid/main amd64 Packages
5:21.0-dmo0~bpo12+1 99
99 https://www.deb-multimedia.org bookworm-backports/main amd64 Packages
Info ver.:
Kodi (21.0 (21.0.0) Git:20240414-nogitfound). Platform: Linux x86 64-bit
Kodi compiled 2024-04-14 by GCC 12.2.0 for Linux x86 64-bit version 6.1.76
FFmpeg version/source: 6.0.1
The way to add a repository is at www.deb-multimedia.org
The next step is installing dependencies.
Code:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libass9 libavcodec60 libavfilter9 libavformat60 libavutil58 libbluray2 libcdio19 libcec6 libcrossguid0 libiso9660-11 libpostproc57 libswresample4 libswscale7 libudfread0 -t stable
After that, KODI installation.
Code:
sudo apt-get install kodi kodi-inputstream-adaptive kodi-inputstream-ffmpegdirect kodi-inputstream-rtmp -t bookworm-backports -y
The deb-multimedia.org repository can now be removed. That is all.

Jupp, know that, however it is an unofficial repository. We were talking about the debian repository.

Yes, this is an unofficial repository. Unfortunately, the official repository of the Debian stable release is missing K21 Omega. Also missing is v20.5. However, it is possible to install from backports or v20.5 from Kali Linux.

I am doing my best now to move 21 through NEW queue in Debian as I realized that the uploads were rejected due to internal Debian policy intricacies Sad

I can not recommend involving Kali or other unofficial repos either. First, the security updates for ffmpeg, mesa and dozens of other packaged dependencies will be missimg. Second, I am not even sure Kali repod for bookworm will not destroy Debian stable or turn it to Kali rolling similar to Debian sid. If you really want v21 fast, go with testing+sid+experimental - this will be still pure Debian with all security guarantees it provides.

Reject the Debian stable release to have the new KODI? Test/sid/experimental releases are not for everyone. Installing from an unofficial backports or from Kali doesn't do anything wrong. After installation, just remove them or plan a pin-based policy. Purists disagree with this, I understand, but in Debian stable there are no packages with the latest versions of KODI. Flatpak takes up a lot of MB and generates other problems.

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place; https://packages.debian.org/bookworm/kodi has 20.1 as latest version.
Do you know if this by any chance includes a recent compiled inputstream.adaptive package?
21.0 for bookworm can be shipped only in backports as it targets ffmpeg 6.0. But 20.x branch of inputstream.adaptive is latest in bookworm via kodi-inputstream-adaptive package. Is there anything with that version of IA that does not work as expected?

Retrospect requires at least version 20.3.5 of IA.

If test/sid debian repositories with a bit of pinning is not for you (you, as in whoever reads this), I recommend, that an unofficial repo for sure is not anything for you. Adding other repositories (including test/sid) needs careful selection on packages to be used. It is not just an "installation source" as you have it with Kodi repositories. You risk integrity of your whole system, as apt might upgrade/change packages you do not want to.
Debian is still aimed on servers, hence neglects all sorts of things for multimedia. Happy to have @basigello that he maintains this kodi version.

You can't easily install KODI v20.5 or v21 on the stable version of Debian from the testing/experimental repository. It touches too many dependencies e.g. libc6 and python. The best solution will be when v20.5 and v21 versions are in the official Debian stable repository. Until then, everyone manage as best they can. Personally, I compile from source.

So where do you get the dependencies from? Same question for the unofficial repository. Either way the debian package has dependencies, that are not needed, or the other installation methods ignore them?

I have a question, i recently switched from libreelec to debian (testing) and everything is working fine.
Expect for two things, its still kodi 20, thats how i ended up in this thread but thats coming, so all good.
(Thx @basilgello for all the hard work Smile )

The other thing is that i noticed that some of the fonts in kodi are not looking like they used to do.
The clock for example doesnt look the same as it did in libreelec, i assume it falls back to another font.

After some investigation it looks like roboto isnt working for some reason and after some searching i found this message:
https://lists.debian.org/debian-multimed...00033.html

Is this maybe my problem or do i have to look further into this?
I'm honestly a bit lost in the mailing lists and bug archive so i'm not sure how to check the bugs status or more details.

You can search for bugs in the kodi-data package here: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgrepor...=kodi-data

It is still open.

The bug you mentioned is about slightly different thing: it is about representation of the name of the package holding the font. The two names pointed to single package since 2018 or so (even before I first installed Kodi!) - that's why I haven't closed this bug yet (but I will because buster can not be updated anymore!)

What you do see though is different font from those used in LibreELEC. I am not sure which font is used there, but here it is Arial. You can choose any other font you like via Kodi settings - Interface - Fonts.
